Services of the University Library

Cloakroom

Use of the cloakroom is compulsory, no food, drinks, bags or coats are allowed in the reading area. The cloakroom is self-service, lockers are operated with a HUF100 / EUR1 coin, which is returned to the reader after usage.

Registration

The central library is a public institution. Eligible for registration are all:

  • Hungarian citizens over 16 holding an identity card
  • foreign citizens officially studying or staying at the university who comply with the regulations of the library.

At registration patrons sign a registration statement, in which they accept the library regulations and agree to bear financial responsibility for items used and borrowed by them.

A registration fee is required:

  • Full academic year (from September to next September): 1000,- HUF
  • Half year – one semester: 500,- HUF

After registration new patrons of the library receive their library card, which entitles them to use every service of the library.

Necessary documents for receiving a library card for:

  • employees, entrepreneurs, unemployed people: identity card
  • pensioners: identity card and pensioner’s card
  • employees of public collections and teachers: identity card and a certificate from the last employer
  • university, college and secondary school students: identity card and student’s card.

Library cards are valid for one academic year. After registration the library membership of the university academic staff remains valid till their employment at the university is terminated. The library membership of university students and non-educational staff remains valid – with yearly renewal – until their studies end or their employment ceases. Only people who do not owe money to the library can renew their membership,

The library card is not transferable. The holder is responsible for any material borrowed and is obliged to pay the fees for the services used.

All consequences of abuse resulting from losing the library card rest on the holder. The loss of the library card must be reported immediately. On receiving the report the library will block the number of the library card. A surcharge must be paid for the new library card if the original was lost within the membership period.

If a library item is taken out of the library illegally: the librarian on duty will record the offence and take the steps necessary regarding any legal action.

The use of the cloakroom is compulsory. Bags, coats, food and drinks cannot be taken into the reading room. The library is responsible only for the objects left in the cloakroom.

All readers must behave appropriately in the library; other readers must not be disturbed.

The library card can be revoked from holders. Persistent breach of library regulations may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges granted previously.

A university repository is a “showcase” for the intellectual work of the University City community, which can publish and self-archive digitally. MIDRA therefore collects and makes searchable electronic documents produced for scientific or educational purposes.
