All scholarship holder degree students need a Hungarian Tax ID number. For self-financing students, it is not compulsory. No tax shall be paid on your stipend in Hungary but according to Act on the Rules of Taxation (Act CL of 2017) the university cannot transfer your stipend to your bank account unless you have a tax ID number. To receive the Tax ID card, your mentor will accompany you to the Tax Office (NAV). You also need a tax ID in case you want to have a job. Once received via post, send the ID number to the International Office.
Scholarship holder students need a Hungarian Tax ID number in order to receive the stipend on their bank account and to be able to work in Hungary (in case they want to get a part-time job).
Self-financing students need a Hungarian Tax ID number only if they get a part-time job.
Tax ID cards are prepared at the National Tax and Customs Administration (3525, Miskolc, Kazinczy Ferenc u. 19.). English is spoken so you can arrange the application without your mentor.
First you have to make an online appointment then visit the office with the required documents.
