Entrance examination

Stage 1.

To be admitted to the doctoral programme, applicants must first receive a Letter of Acceptance. This means we only accept applications for topics published on the www.doktori.hu website. Applicants should choose a topic, briefly discuss the research plan with the supervisor and if the supervisor agrees, we will issue the Letter of Acceptance.

Stage 2.

The faculty coordinator will organize a Skype interview, which lasts 15-20 minutes. A designated entrance examination committee will ask questions such as introducing yourself, discussing your MSc thesis, your scientific background, future goals and why you want to study in Hungary.

During the entrance examination 100% can be obtained. The minimum score for admission is 65%, which is only a compulsory pre-condition but does not guarantee automatic admission.

Factors considered during the selection process:

  • Professional knowledge (degree, official transcript, performance in the entrance examination):
    max 10 points
  • Suitability for research work (written documentation submitted, research plan, entrance examination):
    max 10 points
  • Language knowledge (language examination certificates and the quality of replies in English during the entrance examination):
    max 10 points
  • Journal articles, papers and other scientific activities:
    max 10 points

The total score is calculated in percentage.

Stage 3.

After the Skype interview, the entrance examination documents with the results are forwarded to the Directorate for International Relations.

Career prospects

Students with a PhD degree in Materials Science can pursue careers in research institutes, enterprises and laboratories as researchers, material designers, tech developers and more. Thanks to their strong theoretical background, they are also well-qualified to take on positions as lecturers or professors at universities.
