Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme

About the programme

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government. The Programme is based on intergovernmental contracts on educational affairs signed between the Hungarian government and the partner countries. 

The aim of the scholarship programme is to promote cultural understanding, economic and political relations between Hungary and other countries. 

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and coordinated by Tempus Public Foundation. 

Benefits for scholarship holders

  • no tuition fee 
  • monthly stipend: for bachelor and master students HUF 43 700/ month, for PhD students HUF 140 000 /month for the first two years, and HUF 180 000 /month in the second two years after the complex exam 
  • dormitory place or HUF 40 000 /month worth of accommodation allowance 
  • medical insurance 

How to apply?

  • First please read the Call for Applications 
  • You can find the Call for Applications for bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s, non-degree programmes and postgraduate specialist training courses via the following link:
  • Contact the sending partner in your country 
  • Submit your application documents to the online application system of Tempus Public Foundation by selecting the study programme of the University of Miskolc. Please click here:
  • You can apply for two study programmes 
  • If you are nominated by your sending partner, your application will be evaluated by the University of Miskolc 
  • Final decision is made by Tempus Public Foundation

Practical information

After the personal registration at the SH assistant’s office, the following documents must be submitted via email to your SH assistant: 

  • your Hungarian phone number 
  • your bank account number 
  • the name of the bank 
  • the scan of the accommodation reporting sheet / szállásbejelentő 
  • the scan of your residence permit (both sides!) 
  • your TAX ID number 

Without these data / documents, your stipend cannot be transferred and I cannot start to prepare your TAJ card (public health insurance) application.  

Private health insurance can be used only after you have already signed the insurance contract at the personal registration at the IRO office. Please check out the document attached about the information how to use the private health insurance, what it covers etc. 

Public health insurance (TAJ card) is needed when you have to visit the doctor, residing in the Hostel E/4.
We can start the application ONLY after you have sent the IRO the following documents:

  • residence permit (both sides)
  • accommodation reporting sheet / “szállásigazolás” 

Please be informed that you always have to take your mentor with you when you go to the doctor.

Hungarian language and culture course 

First year scholarship holders on MA/MSc level take part in the two-semester-long Hungarian language and culture course. 

The Hungarian language and culture course is an obligatory subject and not fulfilling the subject entails consequences, according to the Operational Regulations of the Stipendium Hungaricum programme. 

Fall (first) semester course
