Every semester we organize general Q&A sessions to give incoming international students the opportunity to get answer to their questions and doubts clarified. Our competent colleagues are ready to provide authentic and useful information to dispel any uncertainties.

Freshmen’s Camp

This joyful event is organized for all first-year exchange students of the University of Miskolc, providing the perfect first opportunity for them to get to know each other, the different faculties and the university. The Freshmen’s Camp, also known as Welcome Days, takes place at the beginning of the academic year. The Camp is held on campus alllowing freshmen to gain a deep insight into university life through team-building activities, sports and social programmes. Mentor teams guide the freshmen throughout the event.

Opening Ceremony

At the beginning of every academic year, there is an opening ceremony for both Hungarian and international students at the University of Miskolc. The ceremony begins with speeches from the rector and the deans of the university, followed by the presentation of certificates and honours to students and professors. The event concludes with everyone enjoying cake together to mark the start of the academic year. 

Orientation Day

This Orientation Day is designed for all international freshmen students and exchange students. It provides information about academic registration, the study system, administrative procedures and duties, the faculties, student organizations, sport facilities, laboratories and workshops. These resources help freshmen find their way around and settle in easily. At the end of the event, the faculty coordinators guide the students to an informative lecture about the opportunities within their respective faculties. 

Sport Day

Every year, the campus of the University of Miskolc comes alive with energy and enthusiasm as Sport Day is celebrated. This event is more than a day of physical activities, it’s a commitment to holistic well-being and community spirit.

Trip to Lillafüred

It is always a pleasure to show the newly arrived international students of the University of Miskolc one of the most beautiful parts of Miskolc through a trip to Lillafüred. During this event, students have the opportunity to visit the must-see attraction, such as the Hanging Garden or the large waterfall. They can also explore the Saint Stephen’s Cave to see stalactites and its unique geological features. There is also a chance to walk up the newly built Sofia Lookout. Besides the programme opportunities, the students can also taste typical Hungarian dishes. 

International Dinner

The International Dinner is always an amazing occasion to taste specialities from many cultures around the world. This event is a wonderful time to celebrate diversity and learn more about each other’s cultures. Each country has a separate table where anyone could taste the delicacies prepared. The international students have the chance to make special dishes from their countries and to host the University of Miskolc. 

Welcome Day

As part of Welcome Day, students have the opportunity to attend various interesting lectures to learn about different scholarship opportunities and the Hungarian and international communities and societies of the University of Miskolc. During the event, the newly elected representatives and coordinators of the international societies at UM (ISAN and ISA) are also introduced. 

Zemplén Trip

As part of the Zemplén Trip, international students immerse themselves in the outstanding landscapes of Zemplén mountains, starting with a visit to the enchanting Sárospatak Castle. Next, they head to the picturesque village of Hercegkút, a hidden gem among vineyards, renowned for its unique wine cellars recognized by UNESCO. The grand finale is Tokaj, where students stroll through charming streets and sample some traditional Hungarian food, including lángos, a fried dough topped with cheese or sour cream. Afterward, they have the opportunity to taste the famous sweet Tokaji wine while listening to a presentation by an expert winemaker. The trip is the perfect mix of culture, wine, food, and lots of laughs. 

Halloween Party

The Halloween Party at the University of Miskolc is a thrilling event where students get to dress up in their scariest costumes. The night is filled with music, dancing, and a spooky atmosphere, creating a fun and exciting experience. There are also contests for the best costumes and themed decorations to enhance the Halloween vibe. 

Freshman’s Ball

The Freshman’s Ball is a formal event to welcome first-year students to the university. It provides a great opportunity for newcomers to meet their peers and professors in an elegant and festive setting. The night features music, dancing, and special presentations, marking the beginning of their academic journey. 

Quiz Night

Quiz Night is a lively competition that challenges students’ knowledge of Hungarian history, culture and general trivia. Teams of students gather to answer a variety of questions while enjoying a fun and social atmosphere. The event fosters camaraderie and a sense of pride in both Hungarian and global heritage. 

Santa Party

The Santa Party is a festive celebration held in December, bringing the holiday spirit to campus. Students dress up in Christmas-themed outfits, and the event features music, dancing and fun games. It’s a great way for students to unwind before the holiday break and enjoy the season with friends. 

Carnival Party

The Carnival Party is a colorful and vibrant celebration inspired by traditional carnival festivities. Students wear extravagant costumes and masks, enhancing the lively atmosphere with music, dancing and entertainment. This event allows everyone to embrace their creativity and celebrate together before the semester’s end. 

International Staff Week

The International Erasmus+ Staff Week was an incredible experience where our brilliant guests and colleagues from eight different countries could explore new cooperation opportunities between the University of Miskolc and our partner universities. Their engagement and enthusiasm were truly inspiring, and we appreciate the valuable insights and perspectives that they brought to the workshops. 

We hope that our partners gained new knowledge that they can apply in their work. We look forward to staying in touch and continuing to collaborate with them in the future! 

International Day

The diversity of our university was showcased during our annual International Day heldas part of the International Staff Week. We warmly welcome the international coordinators and office staff of our partner universities around the world. Our international students have the opportunity to display their talents. Traditional Hungarian dances and musical performances are always performed by talented Hungarian students, while international students perform songs and play instruments from their home country. In addition, there is also a cultural costume show where attendees can learn about traditional clothing from various regions, including Peru, Indonesia, China Cambodia, Kenya, India, Nigeria and Hungary. The event also features an international food-tasting session with dishes prepared by foreign students from countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Peru and Brazil. 

Farewell Reception

At the end of every year, we bid farewell to our graduating students. The Farewell Reception provides us with the opportunity to properly celebrate our international students for earning their Master’s and Doctoral degrees. During the ceremony, the students receive their well-deserved graduation stoles. Medals are awarded to the ISAN President, ISAN Coordinators and the Student Ambassadors for their excellent work throughout the year. The ceremony marks the end of university life for our international students, and some may have to say goodbye to Miskolc. But don’t worry! It is not the end; it is a new beginning.
