Student card

Hungarian Student Card

All students with an active status are entitled to have a Hungarian student card, granting them the same advantages as Hungarian students have.

Discounts with the Hungarian student card
  • 50% discount on public transportation within Hungary, 
  • cheaper fares for in-city public transportation, 
  • 50% discount on membership fees in public libraries, 
  • cheaper fares with certain taxi companies, 
  • and 50-100% discount on entrance fee in particular museums, art galleries, libraries and many more.
There are 2 types of the Hungarian student cards
  • the temporary student ID is a sheet of paper valid for 30-60 days, 
  • the plastic card has to be validated by a sticker provided by the University at the beginning of each semester (not available for exchange students).

Temporary student card 

If you are an exchange student, after registration at the International Office you will automatically receive a temporary student card issued by the Directorate for Educational Affairs valid for 60 days free of charge. Renew it before expiry. If you are a degree student, first you have to apply for the permanent student card at the government office with a mentor. Upload the code you receive into the Neptun system to get your temporary card.  

Permanent student card 

Mentor students will assist with the application, includingingmake an appointment and accompanying you to the government office off campus. After submitting the application, you will receive a code to enter into Neptun. Once done, you will get your temporary student card issued by the Directorate for Educational Affairs. The plastic, permanent student card will be ready in a few weeks. 

 After registration at Directorate for Scientific Affairs and International Relations, exchange students will automatically receive a temporary student card issued by the Directorate for Educational Affairs valid for 60 days free of charge. Renew it before expiry, free of charge. 

Steps to obtain a Hungarian student card

  • Visit the government office with your passport, residence permit, accommodation reporting document and student status certificate. 
  • You will receive a document with a NEK-number (NEK code), which must be uploaded to the Neptun system. 
  • Visit the Students’ Centre (Building A/4, room 20) to receive a temporary student card. When it expires, you can request a new one at the same place. 
  • You will be informed via e-mail, when your student card is ready for collection at the Students’ Centre. 

Make sure to ask for a validation sticker for each semester to keep your student card valid.

Steps to follow in case of losing your student card

  • Upload the NEK code to the Neptun system, and select the ‘lost student card’ option. 
  • Visit the Students’ Centre (Building A/4, room 20) to recceive a new temporary student card. When it expires, you can request a new one at the same place. 
  • You will be informed via e-mail, when your student card is ready for collection at the Students’ Centre. 

International Student Card

Apply for an international student card at the Students’ Office of the University of Miskolc (Building A/1, 7.)

  • 2340 HUF cash 
  • 1 ID photo
