Rector’s welcome

The University of Miskolc is a university of innovation, adapting to the world by preserving its centuries-old values.

I would like to welcome you to the official website of the University of Miskolc, where you can find out about the past, present and future of the leading higher education institution and intellectual centre of the North-Hungarian region. By browsing our website, you can gain an insight into an institution with a long tradition and, I believe, great potential for development, dating back to 1735, when the world’s first technical higher education institution, the Selmecbánya Mining and Metallurgy Institute, was founded. Of course, the university has changed a lot over the past three hundred years, moving from Selmecbánya to Sopron and then to Miskolc, but the basic philosophy has remained the same.

Today, the University of Miskolc is a true universitas, with 8 faculties offering more than 300 courses at all levels of education and training provided by the National Higher Education Act: from higher education vocational training, bachelor’s and master’s degrees to doctoral studies, in the spirit of lifelong learning. On our website, you can find out about our faculties, read about the life of our students and discover one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe: from the academic buildings to the dormitories, library, restaurant and state-of-the-art workshop halls.

My goal as Rector of the University of Miskolc is to set the University of Miskolc on a new development path so that it can take a more visible and powerful place on the map of higher education in Hungary and abroad. I consider it my priority to actively cooperate with the public, economic and social bodies of the city of Miskolc, the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and the North-Hungarian region, as well as with the partner institutions of Hungarian higher education, and to foster and develop mutually beneficial international relations. I also have the important task of working closely with the Universitas Miskolcinensis Foundation, which maintains the university, and of fostering fair and legally correct relations with other central authorities. In the tradition of the University’s previous management, I will continue to strive to preserve and pass on the Selmec heritage in pursuit of the above objectives.

Vivat Academia!
